Equipment

All players need full gear for all practices.  If you need to purchase equipment, we recommend Lacrosse Unlimited (www.lacrosseunlimited.com)  or, you can try Modell’s (Third Avenue btwn E 86 and 87th Street.), although their selection is somewhat limited.

Founded in 1996, Doc's New York City Youth Lacrosse is named for Bernard "Doc" Schoenbaum (1914-1989), a former collegiate/club player, teammate and friend who played most of his lacrosse in New York City, first with The City College of New York and then for the New York Lacrosse Club. True to his nickname, Doc had a highly successful career in dentistry, practicing for many years on 57th Street. In the world of lacrosse, he is best known for competing at the post-collegiate/club level well into his 70's. As an athlete and professional, Doc remains an inspiration to all of us.

A Word About Our 2011 Uniforms

The game of lacrosse gives us many good things, but we need to learn to give back and recognize others who inspire us to be better teammates.  The logos on our uniform stand for the following:

COGS
- On the 10th anniversary of 9/11 we honor and remember Timothy John Coughlin, brother of long time Doc’s coach Robert Coughlin. Timmy was very important to those of us who knew him professionally and was one of the most well liked and honorable people around.
    JR 10 shamrock
- We honor the memory of Sgt James Regan, who played lacrosse at Duke.  Following his graduation and the 9/11 attacks he became a Ranger in the US Army.  Jimmy was a Manhasset, LI resident and attended Chaminade HS.
Relentless 27 - A tribute to Nick Colleluori who, after being stricken with Non-Hodgkins Lymphona, started up the Headstrong Foundation with his family which Doc’s has supported to battle the disease that eventually took his life.  “Relentless” was the way Nick battled Non Hodgkins Lymphoma.  He wore #27 at Hofstra University as a member of the lacrosse team.

OFF-SEASON TIP:  Perhaps the best way to improve during the offseason is to focus on stick skill development.  Players can do this on their own.  All they need are a bunch of balls, a local wall (handball court even better), and if possible a goal.  Spending a 2-3 days per week during December, January, and February doing the following drills with your stick on your own, will pay off when the season starts February 27-March 1.  So, pick up the stick, get to the wall, get to a goal.    Max Seibald (Cornell and now pro) and Paul Rabil (Johns Hopkins and now pro) practice their shooting everyday.  Remember, great players are made in the off-season.
