CityLax hosted a successful Lacrosse Play Day on Saturday, May 30 at Bronx Legacy High School, welcoming more than 50 students from four KIPP NYC middle schools for a day centered around learning, teamwork, and fun through the game of lacrosse.
Students from KIPP ALL, KIPP Infinity, KIPP Academy, and KIPP Washington Heights Middle School participated in skills instruction led by CityLax coaches before competing in a series of 6v6 games throughout the day. All four schools had previously participated in CityLax’s Discover Lacrosse program, making the Play Day a natural next step in continuing to grow the students’ connection to the sport.
For many participants, the event provided a unique opportunity to further develop their skills while building confidence and connections with students from across the city.
CityLax also provided food and giveaways for all participants, helping create an exciting and memorable experience both on and off the field.
One of the highlights of the day came at the conclusion of the event, when CityLax donated 60 lacrosse sticks — 15 to each participating school — to help support physical education programs and encourage the creation of future after-school lacrosse clubs.
The Play Day reflects CityLax’s ongoing mission to increase access to lacrosse for underserved youth throughout New York City while using the sport as a vehicle for opportunity, mentorship, and personal growth. Through events like this, CityLax continues to ensure that more young people across the five boroughs have the chance to experience the benefits and community that lacrosse can provide.
