Meet Our Board
Mat Levine
|
Mat Levine grew up in Manhasset, LI in the 50’s and 60’s. He began his lacrosse playing career in the newly formed PAL program. At Manhasset High School, Mat was a 3-year starting Goalie, earning All-Long Island honors his senior year (1970). After high school, Mat headed up to Williams College, where he was a 4 year starter, led the nation in saves in 1971, was Co-Captain in 1974, and earned Honorable Mention All-American honors in 1973 and 1974.
Mat began his coaching career after college by starting the Delbarton School (New Jersey) Varsity Lacrosse program. He served as their head coach for 3 seasons, building out the program to JV and Varsity levels, before going off to graduate business school. While in grad school from 1977-9 and after, Mat continued his Club playing career and also found time each summer to work at several lacrosse camps run by major Division I college coaches. After retiring as an active club player, Mat co-founded the first-ever youth lacrosse program in New York City called Doc’s NYC Lacrosse in 1996. The league now has over 700 boys and girls playing at 6 different age groups playing lacrosse at locations in Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens, and Brooklyn. In 2002, Mat was invited by US Lacrosse to become a founding member of B.R.I.D.G.E., the organization’s initiative to support character-based lacrosse programs in urban and rural areas. This ultimately led to his co-founding CityLax, Inc., a nonprofit that runs clinics, funds, and assists in the startup of teams inside the schools. For this body of work, Mat was named his US Lacrosse Chapter’s “Man of the Year” twice (2005 and 2007); received US Lacrosse’s Program Administrator of the Year” youth lacrosse award (2008); elected to the Manhasset High School Lacrosse Hall of Fame (2008); elected to the Long Island Metro Lacrosse Hall of Fame (2010); and given US Lacrosse's Lifetime Achievement Award (2015). |
Eamon Mcananey

Eamon is currently CEO of CityLax and studio host on the SNY sport network. Previously he was ESPN's play-by-play broadcaster for NCAA Division I College Lacrosse, playoffs, and National Championships. A New York City native who attended the St. David' School, Eamon learned to play lacrosse at the Hill School and then played at Notre Dame where he was a co-Captain.

John Moser
|
In addition to his duties as COO of CityLax, John is an adjunct Professor at the Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality and a director at the Institute of Culinary Education in New York. John also consults for several hospitality organizations. John has a 30-year career in hospitality. Fifteen of those years were spent as a General Manager of several luxury hotels in New York City that also included running several celebrity chef restaurants and luxury spas. For 12 years John was the Chief Marketing Officer for a boutique hotel company with hotels in several major US markets. John has a B.A. in History from Lafayette College.
John’s mother was a William Smith graduate so lacrosse is in his blood. John played goalie for Madison High School in Madison NJ and was an All-State player in 1977. John went on the play for legendary coach Bill Lawson at Lafayette College where John played goalie and face-off Midfielder. John has served on several Boards including Friends of Lafayette Lacrosse, Bromley Outing Club where he served as Treasurer, Madison Golf Club where he served as President and Dorset Field Club where he served as Vice President. John also enjoys coaching on the lacrosse field. He was an assistant coach from 2009-2013 for Poly Prep Country Day a team that won the state championship in 2011 with both of his sons on the team as Freshman goalie and Captain Face-off Midfielder. John has also assisted in coaching the Buckley School youth lacrosse team in New York City from 2007-2010 and the NYC Empire Cup Championship teams in 2012 and 2013. John also coaches in Doc’s NYC lacrosse youth program. John is thrilled to be giving back to the sport that has provided him with so much. “I am honored to be working with Chairman and founder Mat Levine, he is an inspiration.” Working with inner city programs to build the game of lacrosse is a natural for Moser. He can’t think of any better way to help kids and promote the sport he loves. |
Jennifer Andrews
|
Jennifer Andrews is a Vice President and the Diversity & Inclusion Program Manager at Credit Suisse. She supports the implementation of the Credit Suisse Diversity and Inclusion strategy within the Americas. Jennifer’s primary focus is on engaging, developing and advocating for Credit Suisse’s diverse employees.
Prior to working at Credit Suisse Jennifer took a career break to focus on her family. During Jennifer’s career break, she remained active professionally by working as an independent consultant and taking on various leadership roles as a parent volunteer at her children’s school. Jennifer’s prior work experience includes marketing and management consulting at IBM; and strategic planning and organizational development at PaineWebber. Jennifer is married and has 2 children. Her son is a Doc’s Lacrosse alumnus. She credit’s Doc’s for her son’s love of the game and development of the critical fundamental skills that has helped him develop into an athlete on his way to play D1 lacrosse in college. She has a B.A. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania. |
Nigel Andrews
|
Nigel Andrews comes to the CityLax Board with the fresh perspective as a member of the Harvard Class of 2020 where he majored in Government and was a 4-year member of the Men's Lacrosse team. He is regarded as one of the best midfielders ever to come out of New York City. As a 2nd grader, Nigel was introduced to lacrosse by observing a CityLax Clinic for a public high school in Harlem. Inspired by seeing students of color learning the sport, Nigel joined the Doc's NYC Lacrosse Youth program, playing through 8th grade and then earned an opportunity to attend Deerfield Academy for high school where he became a highly recruited student-athlete (ranking 9th for his position by Inside Lacrosse), before landing at Harvard. On the Harvard team he made immediate contributions starting in his Freshman year and was poised to lead his team under new coach Gerry Bryne in the competitive Ivy League until the 2020 season was cancelled in March. Undaunted, Nigel contacted CityLax and asked if he could help the organization create a unique opportunity: an event for College 2020 seniors to play one last game with their teammates that will be staged in early September in New York City called the CityLax Senior Classic. Through Nigel's leadership, it is expected to attract 100 college players in a one day event involving Men's and Women's games coached by former Tewaaraton Award winners and professional players, a youth/high school clinic, a Doc's NYC 25th anniversary celebration, and a critical fundraising effort on the part of the 2020 Seniors to support the CityLax mission. Nigel plans to begin his post-college career in real estate this Fall.

Howie Borkan
|
Howard (Howie) Borkan has long been a supporter and advisor to CityLax, serving in many capacities around its annual fundraising campaigns. We welcome him as a Board member who has institutional knowledge of our organization and deep roots throughout the youth, high school, college, club, and international lacrosse communities as a coach, organizer, and legal counsel. As a member of the bar in New York and New Jersey, for over 30 years, Howie has been a partner in several general practice law firms in both states, with an emphasis on commercial and residential real estate. He holds the post of Chairman of the Board of the New York State Honorary Fire Chiefs and is a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. In athletics and education, Howie has generously served on numerous other boards including the Long Island Metropolitan Lacrosse Foundation, the Ivy Football Association, Cornell Lacrosse Association, Cornell Football Association and has recently been named to the Cornell University Council. Through his devotion to the State of Israel, Howie was one of the founding fathers of lacrosse in Israel, introducing the sport to Israelis in 2011, where participation in the sport has grown exponentially. In 2018, he led the Israel Lacrosse Association as host to the largest international lacrosse championship ever held as 46 countries descended upon Israel to compete in the quadrennial World Games. Since graduating from Cornell University, Howie has been an organizer and coached lacrosse at every level, from youth to Team USA and has been inducted into the Long Island Lacrosse Hall of Fame. In 2019 he was recognized by the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame with the Bruno Lambert “Good Guy” Award. He also serves as a color analyst on Cornell University men's lacrosse radio and internet broadcasts.

Brittany Brown
|
We welcome Brittany Brown to our Board to provide energy and perspective from her current position working as the only person of color on the Wells Fargo's structured products trading desk in Charlotte, NC and from a highly decorated collegiate Division I lacrosse playing career begun at the University of Virginia and concluded at the University of Pennsylvania. Britt started in goal for the Quakers from 2016-17 where she helped lead them to NCAA appearances both years including the Quarterfinals in 2016. In 2017, she was the only player of color on the roster leading Penn to another NCAA appearance, earning All-Region and All-ivy honors supported by her highly ranked statistical profile in GAA and save percentage (third in the country). As well as being a student-athlete, Brittany took part in the financial aid work-study program. Raised in the Bronx, NY, her lacrosse career began as a youth player in the Doc's NYC Lacrosse program where she was introduced to the position of goalie which continued through her high school years at the Riverdale School in the Bronx and then the Berkshire School in Massachusetts. She is arguably the most celebrated female lacrosse player that has come out of New York City.

CityLax Gala Co-Chair 2012 Ronald Brown is a seasoned transaction attorney whose work and career have spanned the globe. Ron’s transaction experience includes joint ventures, acquisitions and dispositions, equity and debt capital funding and other corporate transactions. His experience also includes multi-sector asset and project finance transactions and real estate experience involving property acquisition transactions, real estate development and real estate finance. Ron’s corporate and finance transaction experience spans a variety of sectors, including energy, financial services, manufacturing, and transportation and his experience includes transactions across the globe, including U.S., European, Asian and African transactions. Having lived and worked in more than ten different African countries during his career, he has gained a reputation as a go-to expert when it comes to financing power projects, aircraft, shipping assets and equipment in the U.S. and Africa, with experience that includes representing business entities, banks, airlines, lessors, project developers and African governments. Ron’s African business experience includes launching an African based manufacturing company. As a principal in that company, Ron was involved in all aspects of creating a startup business, including formulating a business plan and strategy, raising capital, recruiting management, hiring and training employees, managing staff and designing and implementing manufacturing processes. Ron began his career at Winthrop, Stimson, Putnam & Roberts and gained additional experience with Mudge Rose Guthrie Alexander & Ferdon and LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae. In addition to large Wall Street law firm experience, he has a wealth of knowledge gained from his experiences in law and business on the African continent. Patrick Coleman

CityLax welcomes Patrick Coleman to its board. Pat has a broad-based background in finance, technology, and youth lacrosse development. He was a former Managing Director at Credit Suisse First Boston, JP Morgan, and Bank of America where he managed several different global businesses across their debt and equity platforms. He is now the CEO of GlobalBased Technologies, a developer of trading execution technologies, and Chairman of the Board of REIN Technologies. Over a 20-year period, Pat has served as the President of Greenwich Youth Lacrosse, one of the largest youth programs in the New York Metro area and has been on the executive board of CONNY, a leading youth lacrosse organization and Chapter of US Lacrosse. Pat grew up playing lacrosse in Manhasset, LI and went on to play at Boston College.

Rob Coughlin
|
Rob Coughlin is the Chief Investment Officer for Global Rates at Piton Investment Management, an investment manager based in NYC. He spent the majority of his career in senior fixed income trading roles at Merrill Lynch and Bank of America.
Rob grew up in Manhasset and played lacrosse at St. Mary’s High School and Princeton University. After graduation, he spent several years playing for the NYAC Lacrosse Club. Rob lives In NYC with his wife, Kathleen, and their three children. He was very fortunate to meet Mat Levine and have his kids play within the Doc’s NYC program; Rob coached within Doc’s for several rewarding years. Rob is proud to serve on the Board of CityLax, an organization designed to give back to the great game of lacrosse. In addition to CityLax, Rob serves on the board of the Friends of Princeton Lacrosse, as well as the advisory board of the St. Ignatius School in Manhattan. |
Ben Kaminow
|
Ben has been involved in New York City lacrosse since 1998 when he started as a coach with Doc’s NYC Lacrosse. He was also involved as an original volunteer coach for Citylax helping start the AP Randolph and Frederick Douglass Academy Programs. He founded the first summer travel programs in NYC, Rotten Apples and Team 212 which gave kids exposure to college coaches. Ben also coached the NYC team to four gold medals and a bronze at the Empire State Cup held in Upstate NY from 2012-2015. He has coached at the youth, high school and college levels and fortunate enough to have had future All Americans, National Champions, Position Players of the Year, and even a Tewaaraton Award winner. His passion for the game led him to be inducted into the inaugural Citylax Hall of Fame Class in 2008. Ben currently is an assistant lacrosse coach at the Fieldston School where his boys both attended and a youth coach in the Jr Norseman program in NJ where he now resides.
Ben grew up in Port Washington NY where he played lacrosse and later at Syracuse University as a JV and walk-on player having graduated in 1987 with a BA in Economics. He also played club ball for the legendary Harvey Cohen and for Arena Graphics in the ALL. Ben currently works at TP ICAP in the Fixed Income Division as a Vice President. He has also worked at Bear Stearns, Paine Webber, Lehman Brothers and Yamaichi International in his 34 year career. |
Max Levine
|
Max is currently a Principal at the private equity firm Verlinvest, where he focuses on venture and growth equity investments in the global consumer space. Prior to joining Verlinvest, Max worked for H.J. Heinz, where he was placed into a range of finance and operating roles by 3G Capital, following 3G and Berkshire Hathaway’s $28bn acquisition of the company. Prior to Heinz, he worked for Barclays Capital in the Global Consumer Retail Group focusing primarily on M&A transactions in the food and beverage sectors.
Max holds an MBA with a concentration in Entrepreneurial Management from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a BA in Psychology from Johns Hopkins University. A native of New York City, Max grew up playing lacrosse in the Doc's NYC program, at Trinity School, and then went on to play his college lacrosse at Johns Hopkins, where he was a defenseman on the 2007 NCAA Division I National Championship team. |
Thomas Marino

Thomas Marino is a Managing Director in the Senior Relationship Management team, at Barclays, based in New York. He is responsible for partnering with all divisions across the firm to deliver the full suite of products and services to Barclays’ largest strategic clients. Thomas is a member of the Corporate and Investment Banking Operating Committee.
He joined Barclays from Lehman Brothers in 2008, where he worked for over 28 years in various roles, including Global Head of Recruiting and Programs; Co-Head of Global Equity Sales; and Co-Head of Equities, Europe. Thomas joined the Equity Capital Group at Lehman Brothers in 1982. He received a BS degree in Applied Economics from Cornell University in 1978. He serves as Chairman of the Advisory Board to the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, a member of the Cornell University Council, as well as a member of the Athletic Advisory Council at Cornell. Mike Martell

Michael Martell is a partner of Morrison Cohen LLP, a New York City-based law firm, and a member of its Corporate Department. His practice covers all areas of corporate law, including counseling domestic and international clients in transactional matters and acting as their primary outside general counsel. Michael serves on several boards of directors of for profit and not-for profit organizations. He earned a BA degree from Union College and a JD degree from New York University School of Law.

Richie Moran
|
Richie Moran, an all-county midfielder at Sewanhaka High School from 1951-1955, helped the team to four consecutive undefeated seasons. A 1960 graduate of the University of Maryland, he was a key performer on the 1959 Terrapins national championship team.
Moran's head coaching career began in 1961 at Manhasset High School where he compiled a 67-5 record over five seasons, winning the Long Island Championship from 1962-1964. In 1966, Moran became the first lacrosse coach at Elmont High School, amassing a 29-3 record and two league championships in two seasons. He was also the head coach of the Long Island Athletic Club from 1966-1968, compiling a 31-4 record and capturing the 1968 club championship - the first club title ever won by a Northern Team. From 1969 through 1997, Moran was the head coach at Cornell University, winning national championships in 1971, 1976 and 1977. His squads won 15 Ivy League championships, including 10 consecutive titles. From 1976-1978, Cornell set an NCAA record with 42 consecutive victories. And from 1973-1979, his squads won 39 consecutive Ivy League contests. He compiled a 257-121 record in 29 seasons. Moran's credits include: president, USLCA (1980-81); president, USILA (1989); chairman, North/South All-Star game (1975-1987): USILA Coach of the Year (1971, 1977 and 1987); USILA Man of the Year (1975); and head coach, USA Team (1978 World Games). Moran has also been inducted into the Manhasset, Long Island, and Upstate New York Lacrosse Halls of Fame |
Rob Pannell

Rob Pannell is a Smithtown, New York native where he attended Smithtown HS West. At Cornell, Pannell won the 2013 Tewaaraton Trophy and was a 2011 ESPY nominee for best collegiate athlete, in addition to first team All-America and All-Ivy honors. Since, he has nine seasons of professional lacrosse under his belt. He was a member of the 2014 and gold medal winning 2018 US men's national team, earning All-World honors both years. Pannell was selected Third Overall in the 2020 PLL Entry Draft. Pannell remains at the forefront of the lacrosse world with several noteworthy performances in the Professional Lacrosse League. Rob is represented by CAA and has multiple brand sponsorships/partnerships. He is an entrepreneur, investor and a marketing Executive for Whitmore Group. Rob has also been an active promoter/contributor of CityLax in the past and lives in NYC.

David Pietramala

When asked, Pietramala said: “I am both excited and privileged to join the CityLax program as a member of their board. To often we don’t capitalize on the opportunity to give back. This is a chance for me to be involved with a first class organization that is positively impacting the lives of young people through lacrosse. I look forward to working closely with CityLax as we change lives “One groundball at a time”.
Coach Pietramala brings to CityLax a unique wealth of lacrosse acumen and success starting with his college playing days at Johns Hopkins (3X All-American, 1989 player of the year, and 1989 National Champion). Equally impressive has been his 23 years as a head coach (3 with Cornell and 19 with Johns Hopkins) where his teams made 18 NCAA tournament appearances, played in 7 Final Fours, and won 2 National Championships. This body of work earned him an induction into National Lacrosse Hall of Fame (2004). Coach Pietramala joins the CityLax board at a crucial time. Now in its 15th year developing lacrosse and educational support programs inside the NYC School system (the nation's largest), CityLax is moving ahead with a capital campaign that will support a major expansion of its programming in the middle school space coupled with growing its "off the field" educational support in the areas of individual college counseling and student-athlete mentoring. |
Dana Reed

CityLax Gala C0-Chair 2020 Dana Reed brings a broad range of corporate, non-profit, and community involvement experience to CityLax through her work in impact investing in Africa, structured credit asset management, investment banking, and holding a number of positions serving New York City and the Harlem community where she works and lives with her 13-year old twin boys. She currently is the Founder and CEO of Nyansapo Impact Capital, an investment advisory firm specializing in Africa. Previously, she held the CEO positions in the impact investing space with The Africa Center and Pan African Investment Company, overseeing two $30,000,000 campaigns, plus serving on numerous boards. Prior this Dana has held banking positions with Semper Capital, Goldman Sachs, and JP Morgan. In her community, she has held positions of Trustee with the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University, Oxford University Africa Advisory Counsel, Harlem Tech Fund, Brightpoint Health and the Randall's Island Park Alliance, serves as a director of the Harlem Community Development Corporation, and has been an active member of the Abyssinian Baptist Church. Additionally, she is a LIfetime member of The Council on Foreign Relations. Her boys have grown up playing lacrosse in New York City with the CityLax's sister youth program Doc's NYC program. Long involved with CityLax, Dana has co-Chaired CityLax's annual benefit that drives the funding needed to support the growth of lacrosse in New York City's public schools and underserved communities. She holds a BBA and MBA degrees from Howard University. |
Brian Reilly
|
Brian Reilly is a Managing Director in Investment Banking at Barclays where is Global Head of Sustainable & Impact Banking. At Barclays, he is also a member of the Americas Banking Operating Committee, Chairman of the Social Innovation Facility, and Head of the Early Careers Recruiting Committee. Brian has worked in Investment Banking at Barclays and Lehman Brothers since 1998, and most recently was Global Head of Equity Capital Markets. Before joining Lehman Brothers, Brian was a corporate lawyer for Simpson Thacher & Bartlett in New York and he served as a law clerk for Chief Judge Thomas C. Platt, in the Eastern District of New York. Brian serves as Co-President of the Yale Lacrosse Association, he is a member of the Board of Consultors of Villanova University College of Nursing, and he is a board member of Project Nyame Nsa, a non-profit that constructs and operates foster homes for orphans in Africa. Brian is a graduate of Yale University, where he was captain of the lacrosse team his senior year, and he earned his J.D. from Yale Law School.

Jarett F. Wait
|
Jarett Wait is managing principal of JF Wait Advisors, a consulting firm based in New York City. He is senior advisor and board member at CoVenture. Prior to this, Jarett was a managing director, member of the Executive Committee and global head of the Capital Formation Group at Fortress Investment Group. Jarett spent the vast majority of his career at Lehman Brothers in various senior executive roles.
He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, Advisory Board member to the Center on Law and Security NYU School of Law, President of the Alumni Board for Mu Chapter, Sigma Pi Cornell University, and member of the board of trustees of Workforce Opportunity Services. Jarett is a graduate of Cornell University. |
