THE CITYLAX OFF THE FIELD, PATHWAYS TO SUCCESS
In addition to year round programming on the lacrosse field, CityLax Off the Field is a multi-tiered supplemental suite of services offered to increase life opportunities and success for our student-athletes from Middle School, High-School, College and ultimately into the Professional World.
1. MIDDLE SCHOOL
New York City and national statistics indicate that urban kids in 6th, 7th + 8th Grades are the most susceptible to negative forces within their communities, such as gang recruitment. There are over 600 public Middle Schools in NYC. Through introduction of lacrosse programming both in Physical Education Classes and after-school programs coupled with CityLax staff and volunteer mentoring, our proven results indicate that the possibility for success on and off the lacrosse field going into high-school is significantly more attainable.
2. HIGH-SCHOOL

MY POSITION "A" ADVISING
My Position ‘A’ Advising: The bridge connecting lacrosse student-athletes to their best fit schools. |
MISSION STATEMENT
To provide a platform that streamlines the connection and recruiting process between lacrosse student-athletes and appropriately matched prep schools and colleges resulting in matriculation at the best fit school for the individual and family.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
Our independent school search service is based on the philosophy of helping families navigate the complex process of finding the “right-fit” school for your son or daughter based on the combination of academics and athletics. We promise to work with you and your family to help position you to put your best-self forward in the application process; giving you the best chance of being accepted. Our goal is to help you find the “right-fit” list of schools in which to apply, connect you with coaches for the recruiting process and assist in preparing your application materials based on the perfect combination of academic, athletic, social and financial fit.
VOLUNTEER MENTORING PROGRAM
CityLax is fortunate to have hundreds of college educated lacrosse players that live and work in NYC. In addition to coaching at our seasonal clinics and summer camps, we have a core group of volunteers that participate in our Volunteer Mentoring Program. This program is based upon the Big Brother, Big Sister Model, in which our volunteers establish a trusting relationship with student-athletes on an on-going basis which supplements each students teachers, college counselors and family members.
In Person + Virtual Meetings.
- Mentor to Student Ratio: Each Volunteer Mentor is assigned to 3 - 5 students, allowing for a "hands on" approach to building sustainable guidance to students as they navigate life, school and the college preparation process.
- Regular structured individual meetings: In person, Zoom, FaceTime and/or Phone. ex: How is life + School?
- College Preparation Guidance: Each VM engages each student to guide them in their college process preparation. ex: are they taking the right courses; do they know what they’d like to study in college? College essay preparation: and support with meeting deadlines for students?
- Virtual Coaching: Apps such as Hudl and Famer, our volunteer mentors demonstrate lacrosse drills which student-athletes are able to view and complete on their own, record, and share with the coach for guidance on execution.
